The surah Quraysh is a Meccan surah consisting of 4 verses. Revealed in Mecca, it reminds the Quraysh tribe of the unique blessings Allah bestowed upon them: the safety of the Ka‘bah, the prosperity of their winter and summer trade journeys, and their secure livelihood. Many commentators link it directly to the preceding surah, Al-Fīl, which describes Allah’s miraculous protection of the Sacred House.
Classical exegeses (Ibn Kathīr, Al-Qurṭubī) explain that this surah calls Quraysh to worship the Lord of this House
—the Ka‘bah—in gratitude for these divine favors, instead of relying on tribal pride or worldly prestige.
The tone of the surah is exhortative and grateful: it connects material blessings with the duty of sincere worship, reflecting the core message taught by the Prophet ﷺ.
The key verse of the surah is verse 3:
فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَٰذَا الْبَيْتِ
So let them worship the Lord of this House.
Why is this verse key?
In summary, Quraysh reminds the custodians of the Ka‘bah that their material security and prosperity come solely from Allah—and that such favors demand sincere devotion to the Lord of the Sacred House, as preached by the Prophet ﷺ.
